Kelley Watson
ABC Pilates Director

I am a classically trained Pilates instructor, and have been certified through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA-CPT) since 2007. I am experienced in teaching all populations at all levels on both mat and equipment, and hold special certifications for pre-natal/post-partum, spinal conditions, and post-operative, restorative, breast cancer training.

Over the past ten years, I was the Pilates coordinator at the Chicago-based Fitness Formula Clubs, (FFC), and taught at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Medical Center. When I owned a studio, Pilates Edge by Kelley, LLC, I became a corporate discount partner for the Avon Foundation for Women, and taught Pilates, pro-bono at Gilda’s Club Chicago.

Over the course of 2015 to early 2016, I was the lead Pilates instructor at Horizon Health, Hamilton, Bermuda, where I trained the Bermuda Police Service and specialized in corrective movement. I also established Horizon Health as a referral partner for breast cancer training with the Bermuda Cancer Care Center.

A Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA), 32 credits earned toward a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) and college coursework completed in anatomy, physiology, bioenergy, and myofascial release supplement my “hands on” Pilates training.

When I am not teaching Pilates, I am coaching figure skating, modeling, and acting in commercials and independent films.

ABC Pilates Director

I started studying ballet in Dayton, Ohio with Josephine Swartz, who had danced with Martha Graham’s company. After high school, I was offered a contract with The National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. After dancing and touring with dancers such as Rudolf Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Karen Kain, and James Kudelka, I decided to settle in Toronto and start a family.

After having two children (and now two grandchildren,) I wanted to get back to dancing. By chance, I attended a Pilates reformer class, and became immediately captivated by the beauty, grace, strength and logic of the method.

I knew becoming a Pilates instructor was my future. I certified with AFAA, Stott Pilates and SCW in Toronto, before moving back to the U.S.

Pilates is very much similar to ballet in that it is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline. Pilates strengthens the bones, and builds long, lean muscles.

I am a patient and compassionate teacher. I teach with enthusiasm, clarity and joy. I find inspiration in teaching all levels – staying true to the method, using concentration, control, precision, core, breath, and flow.

I will always remain a student, knowing that the greatest teachers are often the most curious of students.
